“Owned and operated by the Lyman Family since 1741, Lyman Orchards is recognized as the twelfth oldest family-owned business in America.”  (What?! 1741 was more than thirty years before the Revolutionary War!)  Lyman Orchards is a farm, shop, and recreational area just up the road.  They grow fruit that you can pick yourself and the shop is full of fresh homemade goodness like Lyman’s apple butter, pies, local maple syrup, and more.

Picking your own fruit is fun and cheap.  You can get a whole bag of apples at Lyman’s for the price of a few at the supermarket.  You’re saving on shipping and labor, getting the freshest fruit around, feeling good about yourself for supporting an environmentally conscious business, and having a good time outside with your friends.  The only downside is that Lyman’s isn’t exactly walking distance from Wes.  So grab a ride with someone and compensate them in apples.  What’s good now:

September:     Peaches, Pears, Asian Pears, Apples, Apple Cider, Pumpkins, sweet corn, tomatoes, fall squash, cabbage, cauliflower, mums, corn stalks.

October:     Apples, Apple Cider, Pumpkins, fall squash, mums, corn stalks.

You can check each season’s crops here.

If you’re looking to enjoy the autumn weather, take that nice girl from English class to the corn maze, designed by world-renowned Corn Maze designer, Brett Herbst.  (Yes, that IS a career path.)  Tickets to the maze are $10 for adults and $1 of every ticket will be donated to the American Cancer Society.   Lyman’s corn mazes have donated over $325,000 to the Society over the years.  Use this coupon to get an additional dollar off admission :
